Autodesk acquires ECOTECT

We are happy to report that Autodesk, Inc. has recently completed the acquisition of substantially all the assets related to the Ecotect software tools for conceptual building performance analysis from both Square One Research Ltd and Dr Andrew J Marsh.

Autodesk currently plans to continue support of the existing Ecotect and its related tools and is working to transition the sales process to the Autodesk e-Store. In the interim a free trial version of the latest commercial software is available for download until August 15 2008, after accepting the end-user license agreement (EULA) that accompanies the product.

User32 DLL Problems

A recent Microsoft XP update has introduced problems with User32.dll and HHCTRL.OCX Windows system files, affecting quite a few programs including ECOTECT. However, this is quite easily fixed.

Should ECOTECT allow the use of file and system commands within scripts ?

The ability to access files and folders within a script can add enormous utility and flexibility. However, used incorrectly or maliciously, it can also be quite damaging, especially if deleting or overwriting data on disk. There are a number of ways to minimise any risks associated with adding this functionality to scripting in ECOTECT. We want your opinion on how best you think we can handle this.
