Hello,
I want to use the openGL display to see the shadows and sun illumination, as in this screen capture : http://www.squ1.com/ecotect/features/shadow_anim-01.gif
It works, but when I use "section plane", whatever the axe, I can't see the sun illumination passing through the windows, if I look on the section side, but it works if I look on the other side
If there an option to activate, or anything else, or is it a bug due to openGL ?
best regards
alexandre

opengGL support on your computer...
[Archived phorum post from squ1.com v2 by craines]
Hi Alexandre,
Sounds like this may have somthing to do with your graphics display and OpenGL support on your computer.
Try following the steps detailed in the help file under System Requirements to see if you can improve your OpenGL display by updating drivers or altering settings etc.
» or is it a bug due to openGL ?
Not a bug really, just an issue with support for OpenGL on your computer I would think.

Alexandre,
You know, I have had the same problem at one point or another.
Beside checking up on the lattest video card updates, you might also want to double check your model geometry, like surface normals etc...
I recall now having this problem when creating double walls (used for rendition purposes). I had worked through the issue by constructing my walls around the windows as explained in this post: Model Wall Around Window, but actually closing the wall on the other end (more like creating a "o" than a "c" around the window.
If your wall is a simple wall, double check your material for both the wall and window, and check the link between them (make sure the wall is parent of the window).

Hello Olivier
I have indeed double walls, the outdoor one which is a parent of a void, and the indoor one which contains a window.
I read the post you mentionned, but haven't tried the method yet. However, you talked about a "o", is it when the windows isn't on a side of a wall ? Is it as we can the in the help file, section modelling, windows, and at the bottom of the page ? If yes, is it possible to hide the segment which goes from the windows to the wall, because it wouldn't be very cut in openGL.
However, I will try to do as this, and check if it works better.

I've tried to do so, and it works, thanks Olivier
However, there is the issue of the windows not against the wall, wich doesn't render very well in openGL when we don't hide the outlines...
If this issue could be resolved in a newer version of ecotect, it would be great ^^

Alexandre

Hello,
After somes rsearch, I found out the cause of this issue was the void is not well handled in openGL visualization.
in order to avoid the visible outline on the wall, I replace, the void by a window, with maximum transparancy, and so, even with double wall it works. Maybe it could help someone ^^

Thanks Alexandre, we had only recently noticed this issue too -- we are checking at the moment how / why Voids are different in OpenGL and hopefully this will sort the issue for v5.50.
By the way, what did you mean by "there is the issue of the windows not against the wall"... was this fixed by not using Voids, or is this another issue ?
Please email another picture of model to support if it helps to explain.

Caroline

Form follows shadow
Hi!
I promised to my boss, that I could design a series of houses in an additive way by using ecotect. That means, I have a box, and then depending on the shadows that it produces at specific hours of the day, I design the next box, so that it is protected etc etc. DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA HOW I COULD CALCULATE THE SHADOWS ONE OBLECT CREATES FOR A SPECIFIC PERIOD, IN A MORE DETAILED WAY THAN IN OPENGL??Also in openGl it only shows for a specifiv moment, whereas I would like to see an additive shape of a shadow that could define my design.
Thank you very much, nat
p.s. I only have the old version
You should be able to do
You should be able to do this simply by defining a shadow range under the shadow settings tab without using OPENGL at all. Make sure to assign the surfaces of adjacent blocks as shaded by setting the shaded flag under the selection information tab.
You should be able to do
