PJC Consulting: Internship in Cape Town

I am looking for an architectural/engineering student with Ecotect experiance that needs to do an internship (6 months to a year) as part of their studies.

I am an engineer based in Cape Town, South Africa, specialising in passive and low energy building design consulting to architectural design teams at concept design level. I get drawn into the early stages of the design as a specialist consultant in building physics before the regular consultants (electrical and HVAC) get drawn on board. Basically get to do the fun stuff (drawing up the strategies and influencing the architectural design) without doing the boring stuff (duct and pipe sizing.)

I have projects all over South Africa which vary from offices to retail to schools to museams and I am too busy too cope with it all at the moment.

You need to be interested in environmental design and have a reasonable proficiency in Ecotect. Speaking a bit of English would help too, but only enough to be able to communicate your ideas and understand what needs to be done.

This is really for students as it is difficult to get a working visa for a qualified person unless they have South African citizenship.

Ecotect licence issue - can't export licence anymore because d.s.n. seems to have changed??!

Dear Paul,

I am a Kenyan citizen currently hold a B.Arch with a 2 year experience in the field, but now I am persuing an MSc in Architecture, Energy and Sustainability course at the London Metropolitan University. I would be completing my course by September 2006 and do have some hands on experience with Eco-tect for about 6 month, studying impacts of developments on daylight and sunlight (BRE regulations). I Certainly haven’t touched on the thermal analysis issues, apart from a few weeks experience in TAS and ESP-r that’s about it. Apart from that I have 5 years experience with AutoCad, which helps me model my geometry asap.

If you think I make a good candidate please contact me

Regards,
Ali

Dear Paul,

I am writing to you from Connect-123, we specialise in facilitating career-related internships for both undergraduate and graduate students in Cape Town. Our internships are designed to create equal value for the international interns, as well as for the local organisations where they work. We work with a wide range of organisations, placing our interns in varied roles dependent on their skills and goals.

Our services are free of charge to local organisations and our screened applicants work as unpaid volunteers for periods of 2 to 8 months. In addition we take care of all their logistical requirements prior to, and during their stay in Cape Town, leaving them and their host organisations to work on a successful internship opportunity together. Please see www.connect-123.com for more information and past interns testimonials.

I have a very interesting environmental engineering applicant who could be a good fit for your organisation. Jaime is from Canada and is very interested in gaining working experience in sustainabilty planning, energy conservation initiatives, or alternative energy implementations.

She is available from 1st June for 3 months. I have attached her CV and reference letter. If Jaime sounds of interest to you you can contact me on

.

Many Thanks,

Melanie
