Can I change IP ranges on an existing network licence server ?

QUESTION:

I have succesfully set up and activated my local network licence server, however I specified only one IP address range. Now some parts of the network cannot access it. Can I add or remove subnets address ranges on an existing network licence server ?

ANSWER:

Yes. All you need to do is go through the activation process in the Network Licence Manager again and add or delete the required ranges when you get to the ENTER NETWORK LICENCE DETAILS Page. Our activation system will recognise your existing server and understand that you are simply updating your licence details and not requesting a new licence.

If you are unsure of the process, follow the steps in the Activating your purchased licences on your network page. When you get to Step 6, leave the server address as it is and use the Client Workstation IP Address Range: controls to add or remove items and re-organise the list as you want it.

When you are done, click the Next >> button and your new details will be updated on the server, a new licence file generated and the licence server restarted to read in the new ranges. You will then need to activate the client workstations on the new subnet using the new licence file.

Sub-IP Ranges

Every computer that accesses the internet or a local TCP/IP intranet is assigned a unique IP address. IP addresses comprise four integer values between 0 and 255, separated by periods (eg: 165.276.14.12). An address range refers to a series of addresses, requiring the first two integer values but with the third given as either a single value or two hypen-separated values. The fourth is always a * to indicate any number.

It is important that you control the IP address ranges that you allow access to your licence service in order to prevent unauthorised users taking up valuable licences.

By default, the licence server will automatically allow licence requests from computers whose IP address matches the first three components of the licence server's address (ie: all machines on the same subnet). For example, a server with a local IP address of 165.276.14.12 would automatically allow licence requests from any computer whose IP address begins with 165.276.14.

You can then specify exactly which other IP addresses outside this subnet you will allow licence requests from. To do this, you can add up to 10 additional IPs or IP ranges using the list on the same page as the server IP address edit box used during the activation process.

When specifying an IP range in the third component, you can use either a single number between 0 and 255 or a hyphenated range in the form XXX-YYY, where XXX is the start value and YYY the inclusive stop value. Any IP address with the same first and second component, and whose third component is within the range set by XXX and YYY will be allowed.
