Visualisation Tab- Crash While importing 3D geometry

Project:Autodesk ECOTECT
Version:5.50
Component:Import/Export
Category:bug report
Priority:minor
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:active
Description

In the Visualisation Tab while importing 3D geometries, an "OpenGL Clear Window" appears saying "No current rendering context" and it is impossible to get rid of it!!
At that point the only solution I find is to close
Ecotect.
Minor bug anyway, just have to be a bit careful not to be in the Visualisation Tab while importing 3D!

All checked and fixed in v5.60. Over the last few months no-one has reported this issue and I've given plenty of presentations without incident Smiling.

Problem Fixed in v5.6

I do believe that I have fixed this problem in v5.6 due out very soon.

In fact, I experienced this issue several times myself. It was impossible to reproduce but would typically turn up right in the middle of a presentation. Afterwards I would desperately try to replicate the conditions in order to debug it but could never get it to happen again - unless of course I was right in the middle of a presentation.

I finally worked out that, in my case, it only occured when I started ECOTECT (which includes initialising the main OpenGL display), changed screen resolution to display over a projector, and then opened the 3D Import dialog which contains it's own OpenGL preview window.

Trying to re-initialise the new smaller OpenGL window in the dialog with different display settings to an already existing OpenGL window in the main VISUALISE page of the same application would cause it to fail to return a viable display context. I discovered it would work fine if I only started ECOTECT after connecting to the projector and changing the resolution.

I have since changed how the OpenGL display is initialised and have not had this problem since, no matter when I start ECOTECT or how many times the resolution is changed.

Thus, if the problem you describe is related to this, then I am confident that it is now solved.

Kind regards,
Andrew

A Quick Follow Up

Just a quick note, the reason the popup message was impossible to get rid of is that it sounds like it partially obscured the small OpenGL preview window in the Import dialog box. Closing the message dialog would automatically generate a redraw of the OpenGL preview window - causing the error to be displayed all over again.

Obviously I'm guessing as to exactly what the circumstances were, however if you were to drag the message box away from the preview window, you would probably get one or two more messages (resulting from the redraws generated during dragging), but the new messages should pop up in the position of the dragged message box so you should be able to close them and then maybe save your model and restart ECOTECT.

Kind regards,
Andrew
