Zone Property Library

Project:Autodesk ECOTECT
Component:User Interface
Category:feature request
Priority:normal
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:active
Description

In the Zone Managenet Menu, it would be much faster to define zone properties with the use of a "zone library". We can pre-define zone general settings and thermal properties and just assign them to specific zones on the model. This will be of great value to modelers especially those modeling buildings with many different zone environments (instead of going to each and every zone and defining each zone property)

I think this is a good idea

I think this is a good idea too, and would like to add my vote for it Andrew Smiling Surely possible with something similar to the SBEM zone library definitions in the upcoming v5.6...

It's now in the mix.

Hi Edilberto,

This is a good suggestion. I've been thinking of something similar for a while, though not in exactly the same way you suggested.

The soon-to-be-released ECOTECT v5.6 introduces 'zone profiles'. These are principally used to assign activity and system settings to each zone to match the plethora of local energy regulations around the world (for example, ASHRAE 90.1 in the US specifies air-conditioning system types based on activity and climate zone, SBEM in the UK needs very detailed systems information in each zone, etc).

By building in some standard zone settings in each profile, you then have the option to apply these to your zone when you assign it. For example, within the profile it is possible to set the occupancy density as a 'number of people per unit area', which will assign the right occupancy to each zone based on its current floor area.

I'll include an article on this very soon when it comes out in v5.6...

Kind regards,
Andrew
