Ecotect v5.6 release

Hi,
When exactly is Ecotect v5.6 going to be relesed?
I heard rumors that it's going to be free for students. Is it true?
Is it going to have a export function to eQuest? If so, does it export zone and material as well as geometry?
Thank you.

eQuest export

Hi Yunnan.. Smiling

Yes, yes... v5.6 is coming up soon as I have told you...
I know it will export to eQuest, but I have not tested it yet for that, so I do not know the specifics.
As far as the free student licences, that is what I had heard from Andrew, but that is to be seen, whether or not the software support will be handle by another party or not...

Your Ecotect skills are quite amazing considering how little time you have spent with it.
Best continuation,

Olivier

Hi, Olivier

Good to see you on the Forum.

I'm in a bit of a fix. My fellow classmates and I are trying to start using Ecotect as early as possible. Many of us are thinking about purchasing a student license. I'm telling them to wait for v5.6 to come out because it's going to have all these extra features (export to eQuest, etc.) But we are getting a bit anxious as none of us were able to find a definite release date on the web.
As for the free student pricing, I have not opened my big mouth about it to my colleagues. If you can some how confirm that, it will mean a lot to us starving college students.

It was great meeting you at the training. I learned loads of useful things.
Thank you so much for all your help.

Student version

Hi Yunnan,

Ah!...Well, you know I do not actually work for SQU1, so it isn't really up to me whether or not the student version will be free. I just had a discussion with Andrew about it a few month ago, and he had mentionned to me that it would be a possibility, very much dependant on other circunstances, i.e. who would take care of the software support...
Lots of ifs here, and I couldn't be more vague. I know for a fact that the SQU1 team would very much be able to offer the next version free of charge for students but I think it is still dependant on factors that SQU1 only can workout.

In the meantime, if the starving college students cannot fork out the $ for the software (that's as cheap as a week worth of beer from where I went to college... Eye-wink you may want to bring you fellow classmate to your dean to ask for a small educational licence. I reckon your school could afford it.

Either way, having 5.5 will not forbid you to get 5.6, as it should be a free release as far as I understand (up until version 6.0).
I am sorry I cannot be of more help, and I do not want to put SQU1 on the line more than I have already done!

Best,
Olivier

Many thanks

Hi, Olivier

Sorry to have put you in awkward position. I really didn’t mean to press you for an answer since I’m aware you are not directly employed by SQU1. I only posted my question in the forum hoping some one from SQU1 would be in a position to give definitive answers.
As for the starving college students, we have gained support from several professors. Pressuring the Dean will likely be our next step.
Lots of thanks for getting us this far.

eQuest Export Values

comment posted by ArynBergman :: 9 October 2007 - 11:13pm

Hi Oliver,

I'm so glad you're software will be able to import from Revit and export eQuest! I've been looking for a while for a program to do that. There's a website that turns a gbxml file into an .inp file for eQuest, however it ovewrites the lighting, power, and people loads with default values.

Will Ecotect read in those values from the .gbxml or .IFC created by Revit and then pass those values along to the .inp file? For example if I have room in Revit where the people density is 123 sq.ft./person, the sensible and latent loads per person is 250 BTU/person and 200 BTU/person, respectively, will that info appear in the .inp file for Revit?

Would it be possible for me to get my hands on a beta version of 5.6 to test out the import/export abilities, amongst other things?

Thanks,
Aryn

Hello neighbor,

Aryn, I have not tried to export Revit file with occupants in it. I would be happy to try though. If you send me a .gbxml file , i will try it out.
Email me if you have more question, I work right downtown San Francisco.

Best,
Olivier
