Very strange results for daylighting levels and factors

Hallo,

I have a large problem with my lighting analysis.

I am trying to simulate a large room with a double skin facade on two sides. (The model is not finished yet, thats why the one facade is open, like you can see in the attached file.)

The room has a depth of space of more than 40 metres. In the middle of the room I have very high results for the daylighting levels: More than 8000 lux for points, more than 1000 lux for the grid. Why are my values so extremely high? I expected values like 100 lux and lower. Why is there a discrepancy between the calculation with points and the grid?
My daylighting factor is extremely high, too.
These results are completely implausible and I don't know why.

Please take a look at my model and give me some instructions what to do.
Thank you very much for your help!!!
Carmen

Hi Carmen
I suggest you should try using radiance.

If you want to using ecotect, you should care in the surface normal direction, because in lighting analysis ecotect need to know where is interior(or exterior), especially in some double constructions. I think ecotect maybe take the interior as exterior in your model.

This is the result which is simulated using radiance for your model, I think you are right, in the middle of the room, the lowest illuminance is about 55 lux.

Simulating conditions: cloudy sky, global horizontal illuminance is 10000 lux which is the same in your model.

thanks a lot for your help! I am going to try this.

Hi,

so, after I tried to install Radiance and it did never work (some files missing etc.)I installed Daysim on my computer. There were a lot of errors, but I could link all datas and it worked quite well ONE TIME with a simple box model. The results were realistic.
I am sure that I did not change any links or something, but Daysim does not work anymore. (not with my project and not with a box-model) I can export my file to Daysim and start running the simulation. Then I have to load the default values. Everything is fine, in the dos-window I can read "Starting Simulation" - and that's it. Nothing happpens. Normally the box-model should only take a few moments to run. I can't go to the Analysis-tab and start the analysis. Why??? There are nor error-warnings or so, just nothing happens.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Carmen

(attached a file of my project - if anyone likes to try his luck... Eye-wink

Hi,
I perform your calculation without any problem. So it is not your modelisation. I think, when you export from Ecotect to Daysim, put your file in C:\Radiance\bin, I don't know why but it's efficient for me.

I attach the file with the result and the material properties that I change a little bit before perform.

Hi Clément,

thanks a lot for your answer. I tried your purpose, but still have the same problem that nothing happens....

Carmen

You should try this: First:

You should try this:

First: click on the diskette in the export manager->Radiance/Daysim and save with a "simple name" (no space, less than 8 letters...) in Radiance\bin
Second: check if the entire radiance files are in green on the 6th page of the wizard.
Third: the last page of the export wizard should be like that (change it, if something is different) (v1 is your simple name)
Fourth: export it and wait and see your building, (you can change the properties of your materials after the building appears) it could be a little bit long to download the building.
Fifth: try a simulation with the default values; it should take 5 min...

I hope it will be clear and efficient

I've got the same problem!

Hello,

I recently donwloaded Daysim (after you suggested it to me, Clement), but I have not been able to simulate anything!

It seems to work when I only check the daylight coefficient box, but when I check the second box (annual illuminance profiles), the java window pops up, starts doing something, but all of a sudden it stops and the last thing it says is:
"SUCCESS
Starting simulation...
3"

What is that about???

And I did save the file in the C/daysim folder, and tried the c/radiance folder too...

Any idea of what could be going wrong?

Thank you for your help!

Alice
