background scene

[Archived phorum post from squ1.com v2 by Paul]

Hi,

I was wondering has anyone, if it is possible at all, found a way to apply/insert a scene/background on the XZ or YZ plane.

This is really to add site context when looking at a model in OpenGL or to include a view when exporting to Radiance for rendering.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

I haven't look too much into the issue, but as far as I could tell, I could only insert an image on the xy plane, which is good, but limited to tracing or aerial views etc..., not rendering. I could imagine it would be a useful feature and perhaps not so difficult to incorporate, but again, I am not the one writing the codes!

maybe via RADIANCE

mmm no not yet do-able I'm afraid -- although I think there might be a way to use bitmaps in RADIANCE like you do with other mainstream renders like 3DS Max and the like... but I need to double check this and post back.

BTW. I will definately add this to our to-do list for ECOTECT Smiling

Thanks guys. I think it would be a useful add on for OpenGL support. I see my students (1st and 2nd architects) having some fun in this view. Anything to add a dimension of reality would be great and it encourages them to experiment and learn.

It is obviously possible in Radiance itself and editing the rad files is one way. However, I find composition of view for Radiance within Ecotect (prior to export) so time svaving that the more that can be done here the better. It really extends the usefulness of Ecotect.

Thanks again.

Thx for the answers in advance

You can in the 3D Editor Sotiris but unfortunately not in OpenGL, although we are working on this...
