Activating your purchased licences on your network

Important note: This page refers to the latest version 2.00 of the Network Licence Manager. Current Commercial and Educational licence holders for Square One software can download the latest installs for this from their "My Account" page once logged in at squ1.com. Please refer to the Download links in "My Account" page forum topic for further details.

Having setup the Square One Network Licence Manager and the Licence Service on your server, the next stage involves activating your purchased licences on your server. This process is very similar to activating a desktop licence, however it is done only once on your network server.

Step-By-Step Guide

1. Run the Network Licence Manager locally

To activate network licences you must run the Network Licence Manager locally on your network licence server. Start the Network Licence Manager and in the Server Management tab make sure you can answer yes to the question; Is this computer your Network Licence Server ?

2. Start the Activation process

Click the Licence Service tab and then locate and click the Activate New Licence(s)... button to display the Licence Activation Wizard.

This Wizard works in a similar way to activating a desktop licence in that it generates a licence file. But instead of doing this locally for a desktop licence, it is done on your server for the Licence Service.

3. Choose Activation Option

In the Licence Activation Wizard, choose the first option for activation via the internet.

When you click the Next button to continue, the software will attempt to establish a connection to the Internet -- so at this point you need to make sure your server will allow this software (and the Network Licence Service) to connect to the internet for this to work.

4. Login to the Activation Server

Next you need to login to the Square One Activation Server with the details from your order. You need your e-mail address, password and Proof of Purchase Number (these details will have been e-mailed to you when you completed your purchase).

5. Allocate licences and Confirm activation

In this page the details of your purchase are displayed. The next step is to enter the number of licences you wish to allocate as network licences. This number cannot be greater than the number of remaining available licences.

For example, if you purchase 5 licences and 2 have already been activated as desktop licences, then you will only have 3 remaining licences to activate as network licences.

Once you have entered the number of licence to allocate, you must check the I confirm that this computer is the licence server item before clicking the Next button.

6. Network Licence Details

In order for other computers on your network to be able to find your network licence server you need to enter the server's private IP address (such as 192.168.0.2) at the top of this page. You can also allocate a number of sub-IPs (192.168.1.*) in the bottom section, to control which workstations on your network are allowed to request licences from your server.

By default, only computers in the same sub-IP as the server (192.168.0.*) will automatically be allowed to access licences. Therefore you must enter additional sub-IPs if you have workstations outside the servers sub-IP.

Once you have entered the required IP addresses for your network, click the Next button to generate your licences.

Note: It is possible to transfer licences between desktop and network setups at any time after activating. To do this you will need to transfer one or more activated desktop licences to make them available for network activation, or alternatively de-activate one or more network licences to make them available for desktop activation.

7. Restart Licence Service

Once your licences have been generated, downloaded and stored locally on your network licence server it is important to restart the Licence Service. The Network Licence Manager will attempt to do this for you as soon as you click the Finish button in the Licence Activation Wizard.

8. Checking your newly activated licences

Having closed the Licence Activation Wizard click the Server Management tab to view the status of licences that are now being served by the software.

Initially you should see that the service has gone through the process of being stopped and then re-started. To now view the status of the licences being served, click the Status button -- you should then notice the display changing to show the number of licences available and the number in use (as per the image above). If you can't see this and instead the display shows Initialising - awaiting remote licence validation... then please wait 30seconds before clicking the Status button again.

If the Initialising - awaiting remote licence validation... message persists as the status for more than a day, then this indicates that your server is not able to connect via the internet to the Square One Activation Servers and will require further investigation to rectify -- please refer to the Using the Network Licence Manager guide for further assistance.

9. Next stage: Connecting worstations to your network licence server

Having completed the activation of your purchased licences, you can now continue to the next stage and connect workstations to your network server so they can begin requesting licences.
